Agribazaar to Crofarm, agri-tech startups fix what ail farmers – despotic middlemen, rotting grains

E-mandis are helping farmers make a 15%-20% higher profit compared to physical mandis. These agri-tech platforms are removing intermediaries and inefficiencies in the supply chain that leads to the exploitation of farmers and the rotting of their produce. They don’t charge anything from the farmers and take a variable fee of 0.25%-0.50% on the total trade value from the buyer.

For Raghu, a 50-year-old farmer from Manoli, near Nashik , the spring was anything but colourful this year. He had a hard time selling his produce of 20 quintal rice and 15 tonne of onions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nirmala, a grape farmer in Maharashtra’s Satara district, has a similar story. She was not able to do
transport, labour shortage, limited market access, and lack of buyers were causing difficulties. Agri-tech platforms have, to some extent, solved this problem. The dynamics of agriculture are going through a metamorphosis and the agri-tech industry is a centrepiece that’s silently changing the way the business of agriculture is done in India.
