Instagram Reels can replace TikTok for real. But it must mend the chinks: missing features, ecosystem.

With Reels, Instagram has become a natural destination for TikTok influencers, who were already present on the platform and cross-promoting content by linking their Insta and YouTube profiles on their TikTok pages. But while Reels has attracted content creators for its reach, there are several crucial features the app lacks that can be a hurdle for TikTok creators.

Ulhas Kamathe, aka ‘Chicken Leg Piece’ man, had more than six million followers on TikTok when the video platform was unexpectedly banned in India last month. “I had fans on TikTok and Bigo Live. After the ban they commented, even began messaging and calling me, asking where they should follow me. I tell them, just search for ‘Chicken Leg Piece’.
