Covid-19: India is staring at a possible catastrophe. Only the government can save the day.

The coronavirus pandemic will have implications on the medical, social and economic well-being of individuals and the nation at large. While social distancing can help contain the virus spread, the government must take adequate measures to keep the ecosystem alive in order to prevent loss of jobs and income.

As Covid-19 infection and death numbers continue to rise exponentially worldwide, there are less chances India will somehow escape the pandemic – the country has reported 153 cases so far. This has happened before, and it can happen again. In 1918, the world was faced with the Spanish Flu. The epidemic claimed the lives of about
people at random. In this hour of crisis, we need one agency to co-ordinate the entire Indian society to rise to the challenge. And, only the government of India can be that agency.
