The aggregator model, which defined business for several industries in 2010, is falling flat. Cab-aggregator Uber, hotel aggregators Oyo and Airbnb, or food-service aggregators Zomato and Swiggy, are all locked in a war with the sectors they wanted to be a part of over the fundamental question of fair competition. The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) is considering
traffic, helping with easier discoverability, the one thing that helped these industries grow exponentially. It’s unclear how much the NRAI will be able to demand what it wants from the aggregators. But what’s obvious – their businesses have slowly moulded themselves to a post-aggregator world. It will be hard to go back entirely. ( Graphics by Mohammad Arshad)
