How a proper regulatory framework can help home healthcare achieve its full growth potential

Home-healthcare is growing fast, but remains fragmented and unorganised — outside the purview of the regulatory structure of the healthcare sector, which includes hospitals, clinics, and primary healthcare centres. To support this fledgeling segment’s growth, there is a need to recognise it through proper regulation. This will also help it deal with challenges that need policy-level intervention.

Healthcare has undergone a tremendous change in the past decade or so. And one aspect of it that has gained a lot of momentum in the last few years is the home-healthcare segment. Growing at a rate of 18%, the home-healthcare industry in India is estimated to cross the USD6.2 billion mark by 2020. A rapidly ageing
light for the survival and good health of millions and can solve many of these critical problems. By bringing in stringent regulations, the government of a large democracy like India can offer the necessary impetus for the growth of this sector.
