Hostility to China’s Belt and Road Initiative can thwart India’s solar-energy ambitions

China is spearheading a movement to build a globally interconnected smart grid that can connect solar channels across borders. India has stayed out as it’s clubbed with the BRI even though it dovetails with Narendra Modi’s goal of ‘One World, One Sun, One Grid’.

India has steadfastly resisted China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), concerned by its superpower neighbour’s geopolitical ambitions. But this stance may come at a steep price, harming India’s economic interests, as ET Prime highlighted recently. It’s little known yet, but the stance could also deal a massive blow to the Narendra Modi government’s plans to give a giant push
