Unlike the US where it spawned a unicorn, in India, the business of offering clothes on rent is tiny and accessible only to customers in big cities. Also, it is smack in the middle of the super-crowded wedding market.

"Why aren't Indians stylish?" goes a question on Quora. For a country that would vote for Facebook and Instagram if they stood for elections, the insinuation of being inelegant dressers is an affront. Could the inexorable like-chaser also signal an opportunity lost to the high street? What if being stylish didn't take so much effort and wardrobe space (we really
women workforce in formal sectors was too small to make it a viable business. For the time being, India’s fashion-rental businesses may have to rely on a solitary force multiplier — weddings.
