Dr. CD Mayee is a renowned cotton scientist currently serving as President of South Asia Biotechnology Centre (SABC) and Vice President of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), New Delhi. Dr Mayee is PhD in plant pathology from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He has been Alexander Humbold Fellow of Germany & members of many scientific committees.

His illustrious career led him as a Chairman of India’ Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), former Agricultural Commissioner of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt of India. He also served as Director of ICAR’s Central Institute of Cotton Research (CICR), Nagpur and Vice Chancellor of Marathwada Agriculture University, Parbhani.

The cost of a unilateral ban: The pesticides industry stares at an INR9,600 crore hole in business

The agri ministry's decision to ban 27 commonly used generic pesticides has stirred up a hornets' nest. A further review is necessary, as most of the pesticides falling under the proposed ban are highly cost-effective compared to their so-called alternatives. However, an addendum allowing export of the same pesticides has brought some relief to the industry.

Order on weed killer holds more woes for cotton farmers

The government’s decision to restrict the use of glyphosate could be aimed not at curbing the use of the weed killer, but at killing the black market for herbicide-tolerant cotton. The move threatens to further hit the country’s already distressed cotton farmers.
